It’s time to set the clock straight

"It's time to set the clock straight."

This is what I felt like God told me the other day in my quiet time. I have been wrestling with a bunch of different things in my life and just decided I should seek God in the quietness of my closet. There in the dark with no words or distractions I just sat and listened to what God wanted to say. That's when I got a picture of my alarm clock in my mind.

You see, my alarm clock had been off by 8 minutes for almost a year now and I had just been ignoring it. I had adjusted my whole schedule around this broken clock, when all it took was a few seconds to set it back (I think at one point I even set it forward so that I would wake up early, but that wasn't working lol). God showed me that I was doing the same thing with my spiritual life.

I had been working around the issue and not specifically addressing it. I saw that if I wanted the rest of my life to have purpose, then I needed to fix my relationship with the Father. I needed to spend more time in quiet moments with Him like the one I just experienced. And we actually see Jesus do the same thing at the beginning of Mark.

Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” 38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

All it takes is one chapter of Mark, and you can see that Jesus was sure of His purpose in life. The way He did this was by spending intentional time with His heavenly Father. We must do the same if we want purpose in our life. Take some time this week to listen to your Father!
