The gift of community

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day, they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47

This is a picture of what I hope all Spirit-filled communities eventually become. Community is such an important part of being a believer and strengthening your connection to the vine (John 15:1-8). Life is so much better when we willingly do it together. Whether it’s having a meal with our friends or coming together to pray over each other and worship, it all results in God further encouraging our hearts and moving in so many ways.

As finals season creeps up, I want to encourage you to not allow the stress and expectations that come with it all to take you away from your God given community. Continue to come together and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your paths. This will provide you peace through His spirit, encouragement as you tackle your battles alongside your friends who are in the battlefield with you, and assurance that God’s presence will be with you (Matthew 18:20). Also, reach out to the friend you haven’t seen in a while. Your intentionality may shine a light in their life that they haven’t experienced in a while. Remember, we’re in this together.
